Grant Newsome is currently in his first season as a full-time assistant coach with the Michigan Wolverines Football program. He takes over as the team’s tight ends coach after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach working with the offensive line (2020-21).  Listed as one of the Top 30 under 30 by 247Sports, Newsome was a key factor in helping the offensive line unit win the 2021 Joe Moore Award as the nation’s most outstanding offensive line. Prior to joining the offensive line coaching staff,  Newsome was an assistant tight ends coach for two seasons (2018-19). Along with Coach Sherrone Moore, Newsome helped develop three tight ends that went on to earn All-Big Ten honors and play in the NFL: Zach Gentry, Sean McKeon, and Nick Eubanks.

A former Wolverine offensive tackle, Newsome moved into coaching after his playing career ended prematurely due to a serious injury that forced him to medically retire. He was a two-year letterman (2015-16), earning those letters as a true freshman and sophomore while appearing in 10 contests.

Newsome earned two degrees from the University of Michigan, a bachelor’s in American Culture (2018) and master’s in Public Policy (2020).

Newsome and his wife, Caroline (Coco), reside in Ann Arbor.
